Anna Maria Elementary
School kindergarteners, Jacci Penkara, Seth Radebach, and Thomas Heckler receive there Rotary Reader Sashes that they
will keep through fifth grade..
Rotary Reader Patch Program: This is the sixth year of a program instituted within AME to encourage students and their
parents to read books. Program begins in the Kindergarten where parents/guardians read 25 books to their child/ward, to earn
a “Read-to-Me” patch, which goes on a sash provided by the club. Thereafter, the students are expected to read
books to earn patches in 28 venues, which are awarded through recognition on the intra-school television program. The number
of books required for a patch decreases in number as the child matures. Children read over vacations and during the summer
in addition to the school year. AME students and/or their parents/guardians have read more than 20,000 books during the past
five years.
